Monday morning; I took William to Lincoln school as usual. This is the 3rd week since school started. Tim did not have to work today so he followed us recording the video without William knowing it. He only saw his dad when we were at the traffic light. When we got the the gate, he refused to go in with Ms. Newman and started to cry “Papa is not going!”.
Saturday Evening. We went to Long Beach to see the Twilight Streets festival; William had so much fun jumping, running around with music. Our dinner was the Hooters burgers and hot dog and fries (Kids menu for $5.99 which includes 1 entry, 1 side and 1 drink but they forgot our drinks); it took about 15 minutes waiting for take out; best thing is that they validate the parking so we saved $6.00 for parking).
First we walked to the light house; On the way there, William saw 2 birds and said “I want to chase 2 birds” then he ran after them. Continue on to the light house, William had a chance to touch the fish that some nice man caught but had to release because the fist was too small, he loved it! Then he had fun running around the light house, up and down the hills.
Saturday 10:30 AM. When we told him we were going to the pool, he kept saying “No, no”; and then kept saying “I want to go home!” thru out the 30 minutes session. There was only William today so he had full attention from the swim instructor Anthony. Despite the fact that he sometime cried, he did very good. He put his face in the water and lift face up when he was out of breath. Today he learned to swim face up: he was scared at first but toward the end of session, he was getting much better. Seeing how he can learn so fast, we decide to let him continue the swim lessons.
Afterward, we took him to the Mc Donald per his request; he loved the playground here.
Friday 8/24/2018. Today is Ms. Jeanne’s last ABA session with William, the Behavorial Technician, who has been with William at the day care for almost every day for the last 3 months. She recently got her BCBA credentials; and she found a new company that meet her needs. I’m so sad to see her go because I’ve seen her teaching William; she’s really good at teaching William to pretend plays like ordering food at Mc Donalds, in the airplane listening to the flight attendants instructions to put the bags under the seat, buckle up, etc.
May 11 – Aug 24, so Jeane has been William’s BT for a little bit more than 3 months; time does fly. I still remember the day when I heard about William’s accident with the Merry-go-round while under Jeanne’s watch, I was so sad and wanted to ask for a different BT; but I didn’t because I recalled the first day she came to our house; she would pay attentions to little details as to what William likes to do; and she put on the music softly in the background. She impressed me with her creative ways to get Williams to do things. I’m glad that I did not ask for a new BT.
Last week she asked if I saw William dance yet; I was like “Uh no, never!”, then she played the youTube video “Cha cha dance” and told William to dance. It was so fun to see William kicking his legs and swing his hands up & down. I’m so happy to see my boy having fun in the ABA session.
From her observations, she believes that William will understand better if she writes down the words on the papers and read it with him. For example, “Welcome to Mac. Donald, what would you want ?”
She only came once a week to our house, on Thursday from 5:30-7:45, so we did not get to see her much; but she was with William everyday from 3:00 – 5:15 PM. When it was summer, she’d be there with him in the mornings also. So I bet William grows to be closed to her and loves her as much as we do. We’re sad to see her go but at the same time we’re glad that she’s moving up in her career.
Good luck in your new role, Ms. Jeanne. We’ll miss you!
Friday Morning 8:15 AM. It’s parent meeting today; and it’s my first time going to a parent meeting at school. Ms. Newman let me in early so I wandered around, took a few pictures of the school.
All parents are Spanish speakers so the Principle talked in Spanish; one Spanish lady (she was last year’s Treasurer) volunteered to be my translator. This meeting is about to come up with the name for the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and to vote for Board of Directors (President, vice President, Secretary and Treasurer). After 1 hour, my translator left so I left shortly after her because I could not understand what the Principle was talking about.
Thursday’s noon at 1:00 PM at Lincoln Elementary school; William was crying while walking with Ms. Birdie to the gate where I normally pick him up. He kept point his hand to the classroom and said “I want to try again!”. And the story is:
The teacher took him to the bathroom every half an hour but he would not pee. After lunch he told Ms. Newman “I want diaper!”, Ms. New said “No, no, let’s go to the bath room”, so she took him there but he did not pee. When they returned to the classroom then William peed in his pants! But that’s not why William cried: he cried because he did not get the last star (for peed in the pants) to get the chocolate that he wants. He wanted to try the bathroom again so that he could get the star, and of course the chocolate that he wanted so badly.
He continued to cry for about 10 minutes in my car and kept pointing his hands toward the school “I want to try again”. He only stopped when I gave him my phone so that he could watch youTube. Looking at him watching videos, eating chips and drinking juice, he seemed to forget about the whole thing while I was driving him to the daycare.
Wednesday 8:00 AM. When Ms. Newman said “Good morning” at the gate, William responded back in a loud voice “Good Morning!”. Everyone standing near was smiling and loving his attitude.
Thomas, William’s BT for every evening ABA session at home from 5:30 – 7:45 always comes with 2 bags full of toys. William’s favorite now is Pop the Pig and Monopoly. We love the way he’s being patient with William. He’s a very nice young man.
Sunday noon 8/19/2018. Seeing William likes water so much so we decided to book 1 night at the Great Wolf Lodge Resort so that he can play in the water park. The water park is only offered to the hotel guests so that’s why we had to book 1 night even though it’s only 10 minutes driving from our house.
From the look of his face I know he really liked it but refused to try on different things like slides or wave pool. At first he kept standing near the water fountains, and then we found this area for toddlers and took him there: he refused to get in, we had to carry him up and put him down in the shallow pool. After a few minutes in the water, he stopped kicking and starting to play with the water.
We let him play for about 2 hours in the pool and then took him to the room; it’s 5:30 and every one was hungry so we drove to the Vietnamese restaurant near by for some fried chicken rice. William had 2 bites of the chicken and felt asleep on my thigh!
He woke up when we carried him out to the car after dinner. There was entertainment for children in the hotel lobby with music so we stayed there a while; William enjoyed his new bubble machine and ran around with it. On the way back to room, he saw the pop corn stand and asked for it. So we bought him 1 bag, the finished the whole bag! Poor little boy, he was hungry because he did not eat at dinner. Then we watched Tarzan on the Tivi; he did not fall asleep until the movie was over.
