Tri-semester Awards Ceremony

Thursday 10:00 AM.

The Awards Ceremony was held in the Multi-purpose Room (MPR) at Abraham Lincoln Elementary school, where William is going to everyday. He got the Math Award; we’re proud of you, son!

I did not attend the ceremony because I wanted to save my day off for his field trip next week. I remember I attended the ceremony last time; William saw me sitting on the chair and he ran off to me. Ms. Birdie had to come and get him and take him back to be seated with his friends. Then when his name was called, he ran around the stage! It was funny to me but to the teachers it was exhausted running after him.

We had a progress meeting with Ms. Newman on Tuesday; she said William is learning Addition and he’s good at it. She went on and explained about the way how he’s taught to do match. She’d give him papers with drawing of shapes that group together and have him count how many shapes, then he’d have to write down the number next to the group. To me, it’s more like counting than doing the math addition; but as long as he’s learning something, I’m more than happy.

Loves The Ground!

Monday Morning, 7:50 AM. Took William to the school as usual. Ms. Newman was waiting at the gate but he refused to go in. So I picked him up and took him to get inside the gate but he sat down on the ground and refused to go. Then finally I persuaded him to stand up, I held his hand and handed it over to Ms. Newman then he sat down again and this time lied on his backpack on the ground!

He only stood up and went with Ms. Newman when I asked him if he wanted to to swim instead.

Today I had a meeting with Ms. Newman about William’s progress around 1:00 PM, about the time that they are dismissed from school. Ms. Birdie took him to the gate where Tim was waiting. From his classroom I saw him lied on his backpack again when they got to the gate! Ms. Birdie told me that as soon as he saw his dad, he lied on the ground and refused to get up.

William’s favorite place when we go out is the floor; whenever he’s not happy he’d just lie on the floor , doesn’t matter where it is: near the door, the shopping aisle, parking lot, etc.

I try to use the things that he likes to make him stand up but some time it doesn’t work. It’s so exhausted when he behaves like this.

William lied down right behind the gate.
Ms. Newman tried to get him up but he refused.

Valentines’ Day

Thursday. William still coughed a lot so we designated Tim to stay home and watched him. It’s Valentine’s day, and I already prepared all the little treats for his teachers and classmates so I took out the umbrella and headed to his school. It was raining hard so instead of waiting for the teachers to come out, I came to the office and fortunately Ms. Newman was there. So I gave her the Valentine’s treats; and filled out the absence card for school.

We also bought 1 box of cookies for the teachers at Children’s World Preschool.

The cookies box is for the teachers, the little bags are for classmates.
Poor little baby, he looked so tired.

Later at night, it was 11 PM and he still could not sleep, so I asked if he wanted a cookie. He said yes and followed me to the kitchen. He grabbed the chocolate box that Tim bought for me on V-day and went back to bed. He picked 1 chocolate; I broke the chocolate in half to check if there’s peanuts; it looked like just toffee so I let him eat it. He ate 1 half and put his finger into his mouth; I though the sticky toffee stuck in his teeth so I took him to the bathroom to brush his teeth; then took him back to bed.

I went back to the bathroom to clean up and heard some noise coming from the bedroom; sounded like he was throwing up. Uh oh! I ran back to the bedroom and there he was, standing on the edge of the bed and threw up on the floor. He said, “It’s Peanuts”.

Definitely peanuts, otherwise he would not throw up that much.

I woke Tim up to help me change William and clean up the floor. Then we gave him 6ml of Loratadine and let him use the Nebulizer to make sure his airways are not clogged. I watched his breath and his stomach and luckily his breath was normal.

William likes his new Nebulizer mask.

Cough!

Wednesday morning, I took William to school as usual. Ms. Sandy heard him coughing so hard she suggested that I took him home.

I called in sick to take care of him. We also cancelled the ABA session in the afternoon. William did not eat any thing except asking for milk. I cooked chicken porridge but he refused to eat after 1 bite. I asked if he wanted Spaghetti, he said, “Yes” so I heated up his favorite spaghetti. While it was still heating up, he ran to the bed room and laid there and refused to go back to the dining table. I brought the spaghetti to the bed room but he did not want to eat that either. I could force him to have 2 bites but that’s about it. So I gave him a bottle of milk and 5 ml of Children DimeTapp.

He felt asleep around 12:00 PM but woke up around 2:30 PM.

He looked tired and refused to drink or eat anything. He must be very hungry but I guess he was tired and sick that did not want to eat.

He coughed constantly.

Swim Lessons

Sunday 9:30 AM at Australian Swim School in Fountain Valley, inside the LA Fitness center.

William is still asking “No Swim” every time but when I said “If we swim today, no swim tomorrow!” he seems to be fine and let me put on his swim suit. Before he’d cry and kick.

The pool at this location is small, it has 3 lanes and there’s only 1 lane that’s designated for Australian Swim School, the other 2 lanes reserved for LA Fitness members. Now William is ok of getting into the pool but still refuses to use the noodles or boards. Some days he’d be ok with board but only after a few minutes of persuasion from the teacher. Some days the teacher (Christopher) just gave up and let William hold on to his arms or shoulders.

Today Christopher was sick so we got a substitute.

Australian Swim School just made new changes: the fee is increased and no make up allowed for cancellations except those that have doctor’s notes.

For those days that school closed due to holiday we can have whenever to schedule for make up, doesn’t have to be within 1 year.

Another School Day

Fri 7:45 AM. William did not give me hard time when brushing his teeth today! Here’s a few pictures before we headed to school.

8:30 AM The nurse at school called, saying he’s been scratching his eyes and asking if it’s ok to give him Benadryl. I said “Yes” and asked the Nurse to tell the teacher to wash his hands and face.

He was fine when I dropped him off. There must be something got into his eyes that caused him to scratch. I also checked his breakfast/lunch menu, there’s no peanut served today.

It’s cold today..

No Awareness Of Safety

Thursday Morning. Woke him up at 7:30 AM, as usual he whined when I was trying to get him brush his teeth; but today he kept whining while I put on lotion on his body and dressed him up. When I carried him out the door he whined again, “I want to turn off the light”, so I put him down on the bench, ran back to the bed room to turn off the light.

Taking him on his stroller to school. At the traffic light stop, as usual he always wants to press the button on the pole so I took him there; and he pressed it. When the walk light was on, I started to push the stroller, and he started to whine and put his feet down on the ground that I could not push the stroller: he wanted to push the button again! Of course, we missed that walk light so had to wait for the next walk light.

It did not end there, we finally got to the school gate, Ms. Newman and Sandy were busy picking up his friends from the bus, I un-buckled his seat bell and was getting his backpack out of the stroller, he stood up and started to run toward the road. I ran after him; and only could catch him when he stopped. Luckily that he stopped on the side walk, not on the middle of the road!

Watching him walked with his teachers and friends to the classroom behind the gate, I felt so sad and helpless. This is how my morning goes everyday, mostly depends on his mood on that day (today he was cranky), which draws all the energy from me. I really don’t mind doing the hard work, but the thought that he’d never get better, and I have to deal with this for the rest of my life really makes me feel down.

“No Gary!”

Wednesday Noon 1:00 PM. Picked him up at Lincoln school; He wanted me to carry him up and I heard him said “Time to go home, no Gary!”. I wondered what happened at the daycare that he did not want to go.

When we got to the day care and I carried him to his tiny bed, he threw away his lunch box, luckily it did not his anyone, and ran out of the door. Yesterday he ran out of the door too.

So something must happened that makes him not want to go to the daycare. I asked his dad how William looks when he picked him up: “He looked fine, he ran to me when he saw me. Some times he was playing in the room, some time in Mr. Gary’s office.”

I wish he could talk so that he can tell me what’s going on and what’s his feelings are. I guess not being able to talk about what he feels really makes him feels frustrated and he has to act out.

Back To School

Monday 8:00 AM. After 2 weeks of break, it’s back to school time. I woke William up around 7:25 AM, he refused to get up as usual, and the hardest part is to make him brush his teeth. Of course we don’t have much time in the morning so I ended up brush his teeth for him after all whining, crying, kicking. After brushing teeth, and his face is washed, he runs to sit on the bed and smile: a totally different attitude than few minutes ago. This happens every morning; nothing is improved!

Then I put lotion on his face, especially over his eyes because if I don’t, his skin will be dry and he’s gonna scratch his eyes like crazy. Lotion really helps a lot. And more lotion all over his body before I dress him up: jean, uniform polo, socks, jacket and ready to go! I try to finish everything by 7:45 AM so that we’d be at school before 8:00 AM. The teachers usually pick up the kids around 7:50 AM from the bus, so if we miss this time, we’ll have to wait till 8:00 AM, when the teacher comes out again to pick up whoever was not picked up yet.
