7th Annual Check up

Monday 12/7/2020, appointment @9:30 AM.

Height: 3 Ft 11. Weight: 48.44 lbls

They asked us to call the office when we got the the parking lot, so we did.  They asked a few questions, and we answered No to all of them then they asked us to come up to the office.  We understand it’s Covid-19 pandemic, and the governor has issued the “Stay At Home” order for the next 3 weeks, that they have to be extra careful about whom they’d allow to come in to their office.  Their questions are: Does William has fever? Has be been to the hospital recently? has he been close to people that has Covid-19? etc.   And they reminded us to wear mask.

We went up to the office, there was no one waiting in the waiting room.  They took us to room #3 right away, but we had to wait about 30 minutes for the assistant to take William to weight, measure his height,  take his blood pressure and check his vision.  Then we waited another 15 minutes for the Doctor.

William as usual, would not sit still to wait, he walked around the room, climbed up the chair to look thru the window, tried to move up the window blind, lied on the table, etc.

Dr. Huy listened to his heart, lungs, checked his legs, etc.  Everything is fine, he’s a healthy boy.  Dr. Huy said he needs to drink 2 cups of milk a day.  Lately he drinks only 1 cup and some days he doesn’t.  And lastly the Dr. gave him a Flu shot:  William tried to withdraw his arm but Dr. Huy was so quick, it was done in second, and William did not feel a thing.   That’s why I love to have Dr. Huy gives William shots :).

My Eye Is Hurt!

While during his morning class,  William kept scratching his right eye, and then when class was over, he sat on the couch and whined, “Mama, take me to bed!”

Why? – I asked while making his pancake for breakfast.

My eye hurts! – He said.  Then he ran to bed because he could not wait for me to finish making the pan cake.  Later I found him lied on bed covered in blanket and his eye was swollen and red.   I gave him some eye drops and put the ice pack over the ice.

I texted the teachers telling them about William’s condition and that he’d miss the next session.

Then I called the doctor office to schedule a Tele-Health with the doctor.  The doctor called 10 minutes later; we used video call so that Dr. Huy could see his eyes.

Does it hurt a lot? is it itchy? Is he still active?  – These are the questions that Dr. Huy asked.  He said to pay attention to see if there’s any marks on the face in the case something bit him but I could not find any marks.  Then he prescribed him some medicine, 1 is for itchy area, 1 is for when his eye get worse.

30 minutes later his eye seemed getting better.

1:30 PM I put him to bed for a nap but he crawled out of bed and played.  It’s great that it stopped itchy; I don’t see him scratch his eyes anymore.

Check Up After Tooth Extraction

After 3 days, he still complained about hurting where the tooth was removed.  Even when we gave him Tylenol.

Mrs. Sandy from school called this morning saying William kept complaining about his teeth pain and refused to eat/drink anything.

Fortunately I took a day off today for his IEP meeting, but the meeting was not until 2:00 PM So I asked my friend Nhi if I could bring him in today for check up. She said OK and set up appointment at 11:00 AM.

Taking X-ray of the painful tooth
Waiting for the doctor to finish with her patient.

The doctor said his gum was swollen that causing the pain. The extraction are was starting to heal so there’s no issue there. She advised to keep brushing the teeth to keep them clean; and keep giving him Tylenol when needed.

There’s nothing else they can do.

Then we met Nhi for lunch at the ILanet Coffe in Westminster. It was her day off.

First Tooth Extraction

William got sedated. Waited for about 1 hour after the sedation. They wrapped him in the pedi-wrap with his arms tied along his body. They asked me to wait in the the lobby. William cried so hard. And I was crying inside too.

The procedure took about 1 hour. When it was done, William was still crying.

I was asked to leave the room, William was crying so hard inside.
More X-rays
After sedation, waiting about 1 hr for the procedure
Needed to sign some papers for for the procedure.
And the result!

3rd Time To The Dentist

Friday night, I called one of my long time friends Nhi who works at the All Children’s Dental office to ask her about teeth in general. She asked why not bring William to her office. It turns out she’s the office manager there so she could get us the appointment at 8:00 AM the next day! She said we should go as early as possible to beat the crowd because Saturdays are always crowded. She’d be there about 7:30 AM.

A little bit early for William but he did not cry when I carried him out to the car. We came in, filled out the paper works and my friend Nhi came out to take us in right away. They took some X-rays, Nhi & the doctor looked at the X-rays and declared that William would need to remove 1 tooth, crown 2 teeth and 1 filling. And we agreed to do the procedure next week.

All happened within an hour. Thanks to my best friend Nhi. I did not know why I did not take William to her in the first place.

As promised, I drove William to Chuck-e-Cheese on the way home; turned out we were 20 minutes too early, they open at 9:30 AM. So we went to Carl’s Jr. next door for breakfast.

It basically was empty in the morning, William enjoyed running around without running into any other kids. He did not care much for playing games, he enjoyed putting the tickets into the machine and watched it running thru the slot.

He went home happy did not know that there’s a big procedure waiting for him next week.

2nd Visit To The Dentist

William has been complaining about the pain in his mouth, his teeth so I decided to take him to the dentist; he was due for annual check up anyway.

Luckily, we got an appointment on Wed at 1:00 PM, before our trip to Mammoth Lakes.

Picked him up early at school around 12:30 PM. He said “No Gary!”. I could see why he said that because before we have aunt Lily to pick him up; I’d pick him up and take him to Gary’s daycare. So when he saw me, he was wondering if I would take him there. So I said, “No, No Gary; we’re going to the dentist.”. He said “No dentist” but did not kick or cry. I comforted him by telling him that this was just a check up, no pulling teeth.

He was doing ok with the X-Ray even though he kept moving his head. He could not wait in the room for the doctor; he kept walking around and checking out the rooms.

We did not get to see the doctor; the doctor’s assistant came and looked into William’s mouth; asking about if he’s hurt. Then he said he’d look into the X-rays.

William kept running around while we were waiting.

Then another assistant came in and asked if he’s ok to drink medicine. I said Yes but I was totally lost why he was asking that question. He kept on saying if William is not ok with medication then they’d refer him to other dentist.

It Hurts!

When we were watching TV at night, William asked for a bandage; he said , “It hurts!”. Where? – I asked.

He showed me his little toe that was bleeding. I asked what happened but he did not answer.

I wish that one day he’ll learn how to describe what happened in the past. Questions like What did you do in the classroom, what did you eat for lunch at school, etc. he usually doesn’t give me the answer right away. Some times I have to ask several times. If I get lucky he’ll reply in 1 or 2 words; most of the time he just simply doesn’t answer.

Not sure it’s because he doesn’t remember what happened or he doesn’t understand the question or he doesn’t know how to describe.

Diarrhea Or Not?

Started on Saturday which was 5 days ago, William’s poop was all watery. There’s nothing new in his diet: still Mac & Cheese and Spaghetti. But I’m not sure what he ate at the day care though. Usually he’d “Poo” once a day or at most 2 times. These days he went 3 or 4 times!

So I made an appointment to see the doctor today. Picked him up at the day care around 3:45 and took him to the doctor. As we got near to the doctor office, he said “No Doctor!”. I told him the doctor will check out his stomach to make sure everything is ok; and that there would be no shots. He kept quiet and did not cry or kick.

Last time we had a hard time to get him up on the scale. This time was easy, he went straight to the scale when his name was called.

Dr. Huy was off, so we met with Dr. Chi this time. She said he only went 3 or 4 times so there’s no need for medicine. Just watch out for what he eats: no milk. If he goes more than 6 times a day we can let him have Imodium. She checked his stomach and said it’s ok. So that was it!

I asked if taking Pedialyte is ok; she said yes since we’re reducing the amount of milk that he’s gonna take.

Dr. Yen Chi & William

We went to Walmart to buy the Pedialyte after leaving the doctor office. William’s behavior was so good, he did not run or sit on the floor. While paying the the Pedialyte; he grabbed the Mentos mint and ate some on the way home.

So we limited the amount of milk that he had at night. We could not just totally take it all away because he has to have milk before bed; otherwise he could not sleep.

8/4/2019: in the afternoon his poop was fine but then later at night, it was all watery again.

8/5/2019: it seems to go back to normal.

Lonely Boy

Tuesday 8:30 AM

Dropped William off at the daycare today, while I was sign up, he sat right next to the kid entrance door with the lunch bag next to him. So I came in, put his lunch back away and asked him to go outside to play. He said his belly hurt and wanted me to rub. So I told him to wait because I needed to replace his swim suit with the new set I bought from home. He followed me outside to the wooden shelve where they put the children’s swimming stuffs.

So I rubbed his belly; then he wanted to go to the restroom. He sat on the toilet for quite a bit. Then when he was done, I asked him to go outside but he refused. He sat down on the floor in the corner next to the restroom. I told him to go outside several times, finally he did but as soon as he got out of the door, he sat down on the ground! I told him to go sit on any chair because the ground is dirty. He refused to stand up; until I told him I’d rub his belly if he sits on the chair. That’s when he followed me to sit on the bench in the playground. I rubbed his belly a little bit more; but I needed to leave for work so I told him to continue sit there.

As soon as I stood up and turned my back about to leave, he went back inside and sat in that same corner! I came in to ask him again to go out and sit on the chair. “I want mama to go to work!” – he said.

I guess he wanted to be left alone.

Left is the restroom, right is the door to the play yard. He leaned on the door that leads to Yellow Bird Classroom.

I don’t mind if he sits by himself but the fact that he sat on the floor near the restroom really sadden me. Plus, he leaned on the door; what if someone opens the door then he’d get hurt! After 4 years at the same daycare, I thought he’d be better at this place but obviously nothing has changed. He acts the same way as did the first few months when he started going here.

I looked around, Ms. Rose Mary and Jennifer and the new teacher were busy outside with other kids; no one really paid attention to him.

I left the daycare with broken heart and tears on my eyes. What kind of a mom I am that I left my only son there feeling lonely and unhappy. But there’s really nothing I can do; unless I quit my job and stay home to take care of him. Finally, I can’t do that.

Closer look. He has been itchy a lot lately.

4 A.M!

William always has trouble sleeping at night; he usually falls asleep no sooner than 11:00 PM when he takes a nap at the day care. If no nap, he can fall sleep easily around 10:00 PM.

But today, it was 4:00 AM! This is the first time he slept that late. I recall he was jumping up and down on the old mattress that we moved to the bonus room; and he even walked on the trek mill with me. One would think all the activities would wear him out and he’d sleep easily but NO!

He had some caramel pop corn while jumping around; not sure if that’s the cause?
