Snow Play at Mountain High

William loves to play with snow

Sunday early morning.  It was raining for the last few days, and the news said it was snowing on the mountains so we decided at the last minute (on Saturday) to drive up there and enjoy some snow.  Mostly because we know William loves to play with snow so much.  We left house around 7:00 AM; William woke up when I tried to get him dress; I gave him a bottle of milk to drink on the way to pick up grandma and his aunt and cousins Bryan and Victoria.  Aunt Eliza brought some chocolate donuts so William had some.

Before turning to Hwy 138, we stopped by at McDonald for restroom break.  I bought some hash brown but William refused to eat.

There was just a little traffic when we passed by Wrightwood town.   The parking lot for the West and East Mountain High resorts are full so we had to park on the street and had to walk a bit to get to the play area.  (People parked on the sections that have the sign No Parking;  we should know that they don’t enforce it in the days like this (so many cars, there’s no way they can tow them all) and park like other people so that we didn’t have to walk far).

At some point William didn’t want to walk so I had to carry him.  High altitude really makes one tired easily.

William loved to play with the snow too much, he kept running around; we had a hard time keeping up with him.

Around noon, he was tired and just wanted to sit; that was when we decided to leave.

William must be hungry that he grasped the chocolate bags and ate them; he felt asleep moments later; but he woke up when we stopped by at the same McDonald for lunch.  I bought fish sandwich but he only had a few bites of the bread and then asked for chocolate donuts.  And after that a few french fries while watching Minions on his little phone until we got home around 2:30 PM.

William loves to hang around the fire. These folks are nice enough to move over so that he could get near the fire.

Process To Switch ABA Vendor

Now that ABEST doesn’t have staffs for William at home; we’re looking for the new vendor.   I searched Google , picked 2 from the list and called them; left them (CARD) a voice message, few days past with no return calls from them.

Tues 3/6/2018.   Called Cal Optima to check on the status; the lady said it’s in PENDING status, which means it’s not being reviewed yet; and that I should call back in a few days to check.  I already told ABEST that the last day of their service is Fri 3/9; looks like it takes a while for CalOptima to process our switching vendor request; which means the  approval for TasKids to start service might not arrive next week.  So William might not have any ABA services at all (home or day care) until TasKids receives the authorization from Cal Optima.

Speech Therapy – 3rd Session

William and Stephanie

12:00 PM at Providence Hearing and Speech center.  Today Stephanie used a book and asked William to identify the object (while Ms. Kristie worked at her desk); he could answer most of them.  Some questions like “Whose food is this?” William did not understand.  30 minutes passed by really fast.

Weekend Morning Walk

Beautiful tree in blooms

When it’s weekend, Tim likes to take William out for a short morning walk around the neighborhood.  The flower trees are blooming so beautiful during this time of year.  Every time we pass by this house, William always want to touch the tile before continue on.

William always wants to touch the tiles. If we go pass it, he’d insist to go back and touch it.

No More Sessions At Home With ABEST

Today Thursday is the last session with Selestie, which is also the last session with ABEST at home because they don’t have any available staffs for us.

So until we can successfully switch to the new vendor, William will not have any ABA sessions at home.  At the day care Ms. Han and Ms. Tracy still continue to be there until the last day of service with ABEST, which we don’t know when yet.

I’m really sad that our relationship with ABEST is about to end.  They had a great team for William case but they lost it.  I’m worried that the team at the new vendor will not be as good; but I guess we have no choice now.  We can’t just wait for ABEST to find new staffs; and there’s no guarantee that the new staffs are good either.

Speech Therapy – 2nd Session

William and Ms. Kristy

Tuesday 12:00 PM.  Took William to his second session of Speech Therapy at Providence Hearing and Speech Center in Fountain Valley.  The session was only 30 minutes, the first 20 minutes was in the room, the next 5 minutes was in the gym and the last 5 minutes was for the therapist to take notes (which means we left after the gym, which was about 12:25 PM).

When we got in the room, Ms. Kristy let him sat in the small chair and buckled him up (so that he doesn’t run around).  She taught him the concept of TOP and UNDER.  Also, he had to ask for things “I NEED ….”.   She also introduced the functionality of things “What does it do?”, “An airplane fly”…

William tried to unbuckle the straps a few times but could not.

The gym

When in the gym, William had to ask for things he wanted to play “I want swing”, etc.

Mitchell School’s New Look

After about 7 months under construction, the school is now has a new beautiful look.  William’s classroom still remain the same; the new building is mostly for front desk, principle office, nurse office and other administrative staffs.

Now we don’t have to walk that far to get to the class anymore; and because William is so excited with the new building he has not asked for the stroller; and he’s willing to walk.

Having Fun Playing Drum

William enjoyed playing drum on the fruits.

William was near by when I tried to arrange the fruits on the tray so I took the opportunity to test him on the name of the fruits; he knows them all.  Then he started to drum using the chopsticks on the fruits.  He had so much fun playing drum that he would not want to to bed!

So I started a little game where I’d say the name of the fruit and then he’d hit that fruit with the chopsticks.  Fun little game!
